## Calculating Inventory

Finlon Upholstery Inc. uses a job-order costing system to accumulate manufacturing costs. The company’s work-in-process on December 31, 2001, consisted of one job (no. 2077), which was carried on the year-end balance sheet at \$156,800. There was no finished-goods inventory on this date.

Finlon applies manufacturing overhead to production on the basis of direct-labor cost. (The budgeted direct-labor cost is the company’s practical capacity, in terms of direct-labor hours multiplied by the budgeted direct-labor rate.) Budgeted totals for 2002 for direct labor and manufacturing overhead are \$4,200,000 and \$5,460,000, respectively. Actual results for the year are as follows:

Actual Results Direct Materials Used \$5,600,000.00 Direct Labor \$4,350,000.00 Indirect Material Used \$65,000.00 Indirect Labor \$2,860,000.00 Factory Depreciation \$1,740,000.00 Factory Insurance \$59,000.00 Factory Utilities \$830,000.00 Selling and Administrative Expenses \$2,160,000.00 Total \$17,664,000.00

Job no. 2077 was completed in January 2002, and there was no work in process at year-end. All jobs produced during 2002 were sold with the exception of Job no. 2143, which contained direct-material costs of \$156,000 and direct-labor charges of \$85,000. The company charges any under- or over-applied overhead to the cost of goods sold category.

Using the above information, do the following:

• Calculate the company’s predetermined overhead application rate.
• Calculate the additions to the work-in-process inventory account for the direct material used, direct labor, and manufacturing overhead.
• Calculate the finished-goods inventory for the 12/31/02 balance sheet.
• Calculate the over-applied or under-applied overhead at year-end.
• Explain if it is appropriate to include selling and administrative expenses in the cost of goods sold category.

Perform your calculations in an Excel spreadsheet and copy the calculations into a Word document.

Write a 1-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: Last name First Initial_M1_A3.doc.

## Social and Economic Dynamics Influencing HR Strategy

There is no exact definition of a developed economy, but rather a sliding scale. The G8 countries (see Resources for a list) are widely regarded as having the major economies in the world and are responsible for a majority of the world’s economic output. For this assignment you will select a country from the G8 countries, other than the United States, and compare it to another country in the world. Choose an early development stage country or a developing country for the comparison. Compare the essential social, economic, and environmental indicators as presented in the CIA World Fact book country reports, The Economist country briefings, or other resources you find throughout Unit 1.

Next, create a simple table that compares the relevant factors that may affect the development of HR strategies in developing and developed countries. Include demographics of a population related to age and education. Additionally, natural resources, health, existing industries, and other social, environmental, and economic factors may be relevant. Select two of these additional factors. You will have four factors. After creating your table, focus on the gaps between the two countries you chose. In your one- to two-page analysis, address the following questions:

1. How large are the gaps?
2. How might these gaps influence HR strategies in these regions? For example: What does an education gap mean in planning a strategy for a workforce in a developing country?
3. In your analysis, weigh the advantages and disadvantages of these factors when taken as a whole. Together, what is the effect?
4. Refer to the Social and Economic Dynamics Influencing HR Strategy Scoring Guide to ensure you have met all of the requirements of the assignment. Also, be sure that you have cited all of your sources according to APA formatting guidelines. Submit your work in the assignment area.

## Team Performance

A manager who understands the concepts for developing and managing teams and can apply those concepts to improve team performance is likely to be successful in managing a high-performing team. In this assignment, you will apply these concepts to a given situation. You will examine issues within a team, uncover root causes, and develop a plan to improve team performance.

Research concepts to improve team performance using your textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Select at least three authoritative resources, one of which may be your text, to use in this assignment.

Assume, you are the supervisor of a product development team that creates designs for widgets for your company’s ABC product line. After they are approved, the designs are sent to manufacturing. The last set of designs your team submitted to manufacturing were altered to reduce manufacturing costs as mandated by senior management. The widgets were then manufactured using the altered design. Unfortunately, the sales of the widgets are not making the target numbers as published in the sales marketing plan. Your team believes the poor sales results are because of the changes in design.

Additionally, there have been some performance issues with the widgets produced so far. Each time one is found, it is brought to the attention of top management and your team. Your team provides a fix to the design, which is then sent to manufacturing. Management is concerned about the number of performance issues that keep arising week after week. Your team has regular, weekly meetings to discuss risks, issues, product improvement ideas, and the status of any project work currently underway. These meetings have become unproductive and a waste of time because team members continue to rehash old issues. They believe senior management is to blame for the market failure of your teams’ product. As a result, you are unable to get anything accomplished. One team member is particularly outspoken and has become belligerent in your team meetings.

The team seems unfocused and unwilling to look at root causes for the poor development of designs that do not perform well. Several of the team members are even looking for new jobs because they are afraid they will soon be laid off. Both motivation and morale continue to decline each week.

Download and review the Team Performance Report template from the Doc Sharing area. Analyze the case information and fill in the template.

Write a detailed report for senior management addressing the issues you described in the Team Performance Report. Use the filled in template to support your assertions.

In your report, include the following:

• Identify at least one performance issue that could be contributing to the team’s poor performance and at least three root causes for the performance issue(s) identified.
• Develop two specific suggestions for improvements that could positively impact each root cause. You will have six suggestions in all.
• Create a communication plan for your performance improvement suggestions for three different audience types in the organization. Include at least one written communication sample piece. Identify as many details as possible that will need to be considered for each audience type.
• Determine two strategies for motivating/incentivizing employees that would improve performance and morale. Justify your suggestions.
• Identify two strategies for developing the team as a whole. Justify your strategies.

Give reasons and examples from your selected resources in support of your assertions.

Write a 5–6-page paper in Word format. Be sure to include your filled-in Team Performance Report. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

## Holland Enterprises Benefit & Compensation Analysis

Attracting and retaining the most talented employees is essential for long-term organizational success. An important component to attracting and retaining such employees is the design and implementation of an effective compensation and benefit system.

Assume the role of a highly regarded human resource consultant hired to review, analyze, and revise the compensation and benefit system utilized by your city’s largest employer, Holland Enterprises. The firm employs 3,500 employees, but since 2007 has lost 25% of its staff. Exit interviews indicate the primary reason a majority of these employees have resigned is because of a compensation and benefit system that is perceived to be unfair and noncompetitive in the marketplace.

Present to the management a revised compensation and benefit strategy. Your proposal should include a discussion of:

• How an effective compensation and benefit system contributes to organizational effectiveness.
• The principle components of your revised compensation and benefit system for a large-scale organization as well as a recommendation for each component.
• A convincing argument to the already skeptical top managers of this organization to increase their compensation and benefit expenses.

At a minimum, your compensation and benefit system would include the following components:

• Compensation and benefit philosophy
• Pay structure architecture (pay grades, pay ranges, and pay width)
• Ratio of base pay to incentive (bonus) pay
• Emphases on external equity or internal equity
• Principle type of benefits to include (example: deferred compensation match, health insurance, vacation and sick leave, etc.)

Guidelines for Writing the Final Paper

• Paper must be six to eight double-spaced pages in length, exclusive of Title Page, References Page, Appendix, References, Exhibits, etc.
• Formatted according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA style guide (including title page and reference list).
• Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
• Must include an introductory paragraph with a succinct thesis statement.
• Must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph.
• Must utilize a minimum of four scholarly references.

This assessment task requires that you synthesis the understanding of organizational culture and leadership with your theoretical and practical knowledge of Organizational Behavior in Australian organizations. The focus of this activity is to determine how the practice of Organizational Behavior must be redesigned and realigned in multi-ethnic/multicultural contexts to ensure cultural appropriateness and to achieve organizational effectiveness.

Scenario:
Australia has one of the world’s most culturally diverse work forces. Managing different cultural work groups has ongoing implications on the success of the organization. However, cultural differences leading to conflicts caused by ineffective communication and increasing moral and ethical degradation at workplaces continue to be issues of growing concern. Furthermore, as the workforce becomes more diverse and multi-generational, labor power may force improvement in the employment relationship and call for different kinds of leaderships. Recently, exploratory studies conducted in Australia have examined the blend of leadership styles/behavior that different cultural work groups preferred their managers to exhibit.

Using both literature and publicly available data:

1. Identify and critically analyze and discuss the communication challenges that a leader would expect to encounter in relation to the cultural diversity of many Australian organizations.

2. Critically discuss how leaders can address the ethical issues related to the cultural diversity in many Australian organizations.

3. Identify, synthesis and critically discuss an optimal mix of leadership styles/behaviors which would be aligned with managing culturally diverse workplaces; these should be sufficiently flexible, and able to be appropriately adopted in Australian organizations.

The purpose of the assignment is to build up a specific understanding of managing a multicultural workforce and behavioral practices. This is a multi-strand knowledge gathering research that focuses on critical strategic issues in leadership and employee behavior.

This assessment assesses the following subject learning objectives:

-be able to critically examine assumptions and propositions of theorizing about organizational behavior in general;

-be able to compare and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of organizational behavior theories relevant to managers with human resource responsibilities;

-be able to critique and to apply organizational behavior theories and concepts to case studies and/or issues in their own workplaces;

– and be able to evaluate current organization practice and to develop strategies that may assist in the understanding and management of employee behavior.

There are three key themes to be addressed, all in relation to culturally diverse Australian organizations .

1. Identify, critically analyze and discuss the communication challenges that a leader would expect to encounter in culturally diverse Australian organizations . (Information; Critique; Application).

2. Critically discuss how leaders can confront the ethical issues related to culturally diverse work forces in Australian organizations ( Information; Critique; Application).

3. Identify and critically discuss the appropriate leadership models/styles for managing culturally diverse workplaces in Australian organizations(Information; Critique; Application).

4. Correct use of spelling, punctuation , grammar, syntax, and semantics ; well-organized structure; the use of academic style of writing and the correct use of APA6 referencing.

The assignment should be in the form of an academic essay. Use a concise title that reflects the key issues. Use appropriate subheadings to organize the material.

The essay should begin with an Introduction that orientates the reader towards how you are going to approach the material that you intend to cover. It provides a brief overview of the key questions, the logical progression of the argument, and main conclusion/s.
The Discussion section should integrate your research and ideas into key arguments.
The Conclusion should comment on the significance of the arguments in relation to the key issues and consider the implication for practice

## Capital Budgeting Techniques

As a financial consultant, you have contracted with Wheel Industries to evaluate their procedures involving the evaluation of long term investment opportunities.  You have agreed to provide a detailed report illustrating the use of several techniques for evaluating capital projects including the weighted average cost of capital to the firm, the anticipated cash flows for the projects, and the methods used for project selection.  In addition, you have been asked to evaluate two projects, incorporating risk into the calculations.

You have also agreed to provide an 8-10 page report, in good form, with detailed explanation of your methodology, findings, and recommendations.

Company Information

Wheel Industries is considering a three-year expansion project, Project A.  The project requires an initial investment of \$1.5 million. The project will use the straight-line depreciation method. The project has no salvage value. It is estimated that the project will generate additional revenues of \$1.2 million per year before tax and has additional annual costs of \$600,000.  The Marginal Tax rate is 35%.

Required:

• Wheel has just paid a dividend of \$2.50 per share. The dividends are expected to grow at a constant rate of six percent per year forever. If the stock is currently selling for \$50 per share with a 10% flotation cost, what is the cost of new equity for the firm? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using this type of financing for the firm?
• The firm is considering using debt in its capital structure. If the market rate of 5% is appropriate for debt of this kind, what is the after tax cost of debt for the company? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using this type of financing for the firm?
• The firm has decided on a capital structure consisting of 30% debt and 70% new common stock. Calculate the WACC and explain how it is used in the capital budgeting process.
• Calculate the after tax cash flows for the project for each year. Explain the methods used in your calculations.
• If the discount rate were 6 percent calculate the NPV of the project. Is this an economically acceptable project to undertake? Why or why not?
• Now calculate the IRR for the project. Is this an acceptable project? Why or why not? Is there a conflict between your answer to part C? Explain why or why not?

Wheel has two other possible investment opportunities, which are mutually exclusive, and independent of Investment A above.  Both investments will cost \$120,000 and have a life of 6 years. The after tax cash flows are expected to be the same over the six year life for both projects, and the probabilities for each year’s after tax cash flow is given in the table below.

 Investment B Investment C Probability After Tax Cash Flow Probability After Tax Cash Flow 0.25 \$20,000 0.30 \$22,000 0.50 32,000 0.50 40,000 0.25 40,000 0.20 50,000

• What is the expected value of each project’s annual after tax cash flow? Justify your answers and identify any conflicts between the IRR and the NPV and explain why these conflicts may occur.
• Assuming that the appropriate discount rate for projects of this risk level is 8%, what is the risk-adjusted NPV for each project? Which project, if either, should be selected? Justify your conclusions.

## The Cost of Capital

Assume that you are a member of an aerospace company’s newly formed executive committee that has been given the role of reviewing requests for major capital expenditures.  The committee chairman has laid the groundwork for approving requests that managers of various organizational units have submitted by reminding the group that their charge is to approve the investment opportunities that will best meet the company’s financial objective of maximizing shareholder wealth.

One of the more outspoken individuals on the committee vigorously pushed the concept that the best way to maximize shareholder wealth would be to accept all of the projects that promise a return that is higher than the long-term interest rates on bonds or bank loans. This same committee member is also insistent that  the company  turn to borrowed funds as needed to augment existing funds so that all of the projects that are attractive to the committee,  and that promise a return that is higher than the borrowing rate,  can be accepted.

Other committee members expressed concern about that approach but the time scheduled for adjourning the meeting arrived before the disagreement was resolved. You have been assigned to examine the issue and, in the spirit of taking advantage of a teaching moment, circulate a report that will bring all committee members to a common understanding of the decision criteria that should be adopted by the committee.  The chairman asked that your report address the following questions that seemed to be present during the committee meeting.

1. Why would the suggested approach of using the cost of new debt as the hurdle rate probably not result in maximizing the shareholders wealth?
2. What role does the cost of capital play in the committee’s work?
3. How might a company’s WACC be affected by changes in the size of its capital budget?
4. When and why would it be inappropriate to use the firm’s cost of capital as calculated on its existing capital structure to evaluate new investment opportunities?
5. In what situations would it be appropriate to use the firm’s cost of capital as calculated on its existing capital structure to evaluate new investment opportunities?
6. For the situations in which it would be inappropriate to use the firm’s cost of capital as calculated on its existing capital structure to evaluate new investment opportunities, what are the alternatives that might be used instead as the hurdle rate?

## Capital Budgeting and Dividend Policies

Cramer Industries has identified several investment opportunities that will become available over the next three years and would like you to evaluate these projects.  They have asked that you use the NPV and IRR methods to determine if these independent projects are acceptable.  Each of these investments will occur one year apart and the cash flows will start one year after the investment is made.

Table-1:

 Project Cash Flows/Year (in thousands) Length of Project Cost and Date when Cost is incurred A \$ 2,300.00 5 years \$ 12,000.00 @t=1 B \$ 3,000.00 5 years \$ 17,000.00 @t=2 C \$ 2,800.00 5 years \$ 13,000.00 @t=3 D \$ 2,100.00 5 years \$ 15,000.00 @t=4

Cramer currently has 2,000,000 shares outstanding and pays a dividend of \$2 per share.

With a high degree of certainty, Cramer has projected their income for the next four years as follows, which includes the annual cash flows from the investments selected above:

Table-2:

 Year Income After Taxes 1 \$6,000.00 2 \$8,000.00 3 \$5,000.00 4 \$7,000.00

Questions:

1. What is the NPV for each project at the time the investment would be made? Explain your findings.
2. What is the IRR for each project at the time the investment would be made?  Explain your findings
3. Which investments should be selected?  Justify your conclusions.
4. What will the dividends per share and the external financing required, if the current dividend per share is maintained?  Justify your conclusions.
5. What will the dividends per share and the external financing required, if the dividend per share payout ratio of 50% is maintained?  Explain your answers.
6. If the dividend policy is considered a residual decision, what will be the dividends per share and external financing requirement in each year?  Explain your answers.
7. Under which policy will external financing be minimized?  Justify your conclusions.

## Realism

With Realism we now see a non-idealized portrayal of real life in paintings. Research and discuss the characteristics of Realism painting, utilizing your textbook and library resources for information.

Your discussion should focus on (although not limited to) the following points:

• What the role of the artist was during this time?
• Who or what were the artist’s subjects?
• Stylistically, how does Realism differ from what we have seen in the past?
• As a viewer, how do you relate to Realism painting as compared to those of the past?

## Individual art

This is a case study to help you discover connections between the appreciation of art and the workplace.

Taking on the role of an art curator, you will recommend 3 Modern American works of art for the new location of a large pharmaceutical company that wants to invest in art with the theme of “progress” for its new company headquarters. The total budget for the purchase of the artwork is \$600,000.

• To find the 3 Modern American art works with the theme “progress,” visit famous auction houses such as this one and this one, professional galleries, and other Internet sites, and choose paintings, sculptures, or photography that would represent Modern American works of art for the company’s headquarters.
• For each work of art, create 2 paragraphs that include the following:
• The title of the work and the techniques and media used.
• The artist’s name and a brief biography of the artist.
• Cost of the art work; the budget allows for approximately \$200,000 per work of art.
• How do the characteristics and style of the Modern American artwork address the theme of “progress”?
• What are the benefits of investing in art for a corporation?
• Why might employees be interested in these works of art?

Prepare your response using Word. Include photos of the recommended pieces of art. Be sure to include citations and references as needed, although it is not necessary to format this as an APA document.

Submit 1 Word document for this assignment.

In-text citations and a list of references are required when including or paraphrasing any idea, fact, date, or other information from the textbook or other references.

## Propane gas enters a continuous adiabatic heat exchanger

Propane gas enters a continuous adiabatic heat exchanger’ at 40°C and 250 kpa and exits at 240°C super heated steam at 300°C and 5.0 bar enters the exchanger flowing counter currently to the propane and exits as a saturated liquid at the same pressure.

(a) Taking as a basis 100 ml of propane fed to the exchanger, draw and label a process flowchart. Include in your labeling the volume of propane fed (m3), the mass of steam fed (kg), and the volume of steam fed (m3).

(b) Calculate values of the labeled specific enthalpies in the following inlet—outlet enthalpy table for this process.

(c) Use an energy balance to calculate the required mass feed rate of the steam. Then calculate the volumetric feed ratio of the two streams (m3 steam fed/m3 propane fed). Assume ideal gas behavior for the propane but not the steam and recall that the exchanger is adiabatic.

(d) Calculate the heat transferred from the water to the propane (kJ/m3 propane fed). (Hint: Do an energy balance on either the water or the propane rather than on the entire heat exchanger.)

(e) Over a period of time, scale builds up on the heat transfer surface, resulting in a lower rate of heat transfer between the propane and the steam. What changes in the outlet streams would you expect to see as a result of the decreased heat transfer?

## Density

Immediately prior to a nuclear fission detonation, a pultonium spherical mass is compressed by high explosives in such a way that it briefly becomes a sphere with half the radius of the original sphere. As a result of the compression. the density of the sphere will:

1)Douples

3)Increases by a factor of 8

4)Decreases by a factor of 8

Q2)Length scale in physics suppose we model a hydrogen atom as a sphere with a radius of 0.53 A = 5.3 * 10^-11 m . what’s the volume of such an atom? recall that the volume of a sphere is V sphere = 4/3 pi r^3

1)3.8 * 10^-15 m^3

2)1.2 * 10^-21 m^3

3)6.2 * 10^-31 m^3

4)2.8 *10^-42 m^3

Comment on the extent to which these predictions can be compared with experiment, for example, making repeated experiments.

## Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is a specialized branch of modern medicine that exploits the process of radioactivity for imaging, diagnosis, and treatment. Many imaging techniques inject small amounts of radioactive material into the body, which are then tracked by a sensing device specific to the type of radiation emitted from that material. Radiation has also been used to destroy diseased tissue, typically beyond the reach of standard surgical techniques.

• Explain the scientific and technical concepts related to nuclear medicine. Consider the following questions when you construct your response:

o    What type of radiation is typically exploited in most nuclear medicine procedures?

o    How are patients prepared for nuclear medicine procedures?

o    What are the advantages and limitations of nuclear medicine?

o    What ailments are typically diagnosed and treated via nuclear medicine procedures?

• Evaluate a minimum of three applications of nuclear medicine relating to any of the following topics:

o    Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans

o    Gallium scans

o    Indium white blood cell scans

o    Iobenguane scans (MIBG)

o    Octreotide scans

o    Hybrid scanning techniques employing X-ray computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

o    Nuclear medicine therapy using radio pharmaceuticals

Support your statements with examples. Provide a minimum of three scholarly references.

Write a 2–3-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

## Fundamental Physics

Think of an interesting real-world problem that you can solve using what you’ve learned in class this year. It can be something related to engineering, circuits, power, optics, electricity, and magnetism. Make it something that would interest you. For example:

• What surface area of solar panels would you need to generate the amount of energy needed to power a spinning space station ring (at or around Earth’s orbital radius) that could provide a centripetal force that would simulate Earth’s gravity? How would you design the station in order for it to work?
• Could you harness the power of stationary bikes and treadmills in the gym to power a room or building?
• Could you design an invisibility cloak or something like it with thin-film interference?
• Can you build a novel circuit out of the parts we studied in class and use differential equations to predict the behavior of current and voltage with time?
• Feel free to discuss ideas with me in class or in office hours.

• The idea should come from you and be novel, interesting, and solvable.
• You will need to apply the concepts and equations we studied in this course
• You will need to look up specifications, constants, or other equations you may need, and you may also need to make approximations or assumptions
• You should be prepared to do a few pages of drawings, diagrams, equations to lay out your work.

## Performance Management

You are the HR manager for an upscale retail store which sells clothing, shoes, handbags, and other accessories. Due to the economic downturn, the company has experienced a significant reduction in earnings, resulting in the layoff of a number of retail sales associates. Business seems to be rebounding, but you are concerned about the performance of the retail sales staff. The CEO has requested that you recommend ways to increase sales and customer service. ## Markets and the Economics of the Public Sector

Purpose of Assignment

Students will employ the supply and demand model to develop consumer surplus and producer surplus as a measure of welfare and market efficiency. Students learn about welfare economics–the study of how the allocation of resources affects economic well-being–and will discover that under most circumstances, the equilibrium price and quantity is also the one that maximizes welfare. Students will review different sources of externalities and a variety of potential cures and will see that while markets are usually a good way to organize economic activity, governments can sometimes improve market outcomes. Students will see how the U.S. government raises and spends money and the difficulty of making a tax system both efficient and equitable.

Assignment Steps

Scenario: Imagine you have been assigned the responsibility of preparing a paper for the governor’s next economic conference.

Prepare a 1,050-word paper addressing the following:

• Explain why equilibrium of supply and demand is desirable.
• Explain the following concepts using the concept of consumer and producer surplus:
• Efficiency of markets
• Costs of taxation
• Discuss how externalities may prevent market equilibrium and the various governments policies used to remedy the inefficiencies in markets caused by externalities.
• Analyze the difference between the efficiency of a tax system and the equity of a tax system as it refers to the costs imposed on taxpayers using the benefits principles.

## Ecology

It is easy to criticize society for not using renewable resources, but in reality, how difficult would this transition be? What processes and procedures would be involved? How would such a transition be made?

The purpose of this assignment is for you to consider what type of energy your neighborhood is currently powered by and what it would really take to convert this source to a renewable one. How much would it take to switch your community to a renewable resource and what would this mean for the environment?

For the assignment, complete the following:

• Identify three primary types of energy that powers your home as well as all of the homes in your community. You may find this information on your community Web site or the Web sites of the local power companies. For example, your community may use electricity and solar panels.
• Explain how the sources of energy you identified impact the environment. Consider the following:
• Does the use of these types of energy resource have a negative impact on the environment in your area?
• Does your community have nuclear waste to dispose of?
• Has your community always used these three power sources? If so, how do you feel this has impacted the environment over time?
• How much of an impact have these sources of energy had on local air and water quality?
• Considering the current source(s) of power available, determine how much energy your house uses each month. You can find this information on your monthly energy bill.

Calculate your annual usage for a year. Using this value, estimate the energy consumption for your community. The US Census Bureau is one resource you can use to estimate the number of households in your community.

• You can use the following formulae for this calculation:

(monthly energy usage) × (12 months per year) = (household energy usage per year); (yearly energy estimate for your house) × (estimated number of houses in your community) = (estimated yearly energy use for your community)

The following is an example of the above calculation:

 52.8 kilowatt hours (kwh) per month × 12 months = 633.6 kwh; 633.6 kwh × 200 houses in your community = 126,720 kwh
• Recommend a realistic, renewable resource to power your community, using your calculated power needs. Consider the following sources: hydro-power, solar power, wind turbines, and geothermal energy.
• Which source would be the best for your community?
• Justify your choice based on the kind of resources that are available, how much power these alternative sources can produce, and your estimated energy demands for the community.
• Having recommended an alternative power source, conclude by addressing the following:
• How realistic is this alternative power source for your community?
• How will people in your community respond to energy conversion? Will they support it or be against it? Give reasons.
• How expensive would it be to convert to the alternative power source you recommended? How would this new source impact the environment?
• What organisms would benefit most from this conversion?

Support your statements with appropriate examples and approximately 4–6 credible resources.

Write an 8–10-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

## Hybrid Car Research

A hybrid car is a motor vehicle that uses two or more different sources of power. In most hybrids, you will find an internal combustion engine in addition to an electrical motor. Depending on how the vehicle is driven and the availability of power, the car uses gasoline and battery power alternately.

In this assignment, you will research five different hybrid cars and evaluate their impact on the environment.

Using the readings for this module, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, do the following:

• Identify the top five most popular choices of hybrid cars. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each car’s technology, price, manufacturing, and impact on environment. Include the scientific principles involved in the technology.
• Determine which type of car would work best for you and your family. Justify your decision based on your analysis of the five hybrid cars.
• Explain the impact these cars will have on the United States’ economy. Consider the following issues in your analysis: consumer buying, sustainability, recycling, and fuel economy.
• Evaluate the impact that hybrid-car technology has had or could have on the United States’ political relationships with oil-producing countries. Be sure to include an analysis of economic issues such as production, supply, and trade.
• Describe how this technology will influence world politics. Include an analysis of economic issues such as production, supply, and trade.

## Political Science

This week we examine civil liberties and civil rights as well as elections and campaigns. Throughout our history, different groups within our society have struggled to attain equality in our country.

Consider the history of equality in the United States.

•  What were some ways that minorities were denied access to the voting booth, according to chapter 5?
•  What groups worked to help minorities overcome these obstacles?
•  What course cases helped to set a precedent for equality?
• Consider equality today.
•  Do all sectors of our society enjoy equality?
• Select a political, economic, or social factor to explain your view. For example, are there political reasons one group or another faces or does not face discrimination? Are there economic reasons for inequality? Are there societal norms that dictate who should have full equality and who should not?

## The Value of a Quality Assurance Department

• At least three current business initiatives driving healthcare quality.
• The role that national policy plays on the quality of healthcare.
• A clear explanation of why the quality assurance department should be created

## The Banking System and Risk Management

Financial management is a critical component of the broader subject of risk management. Inadequate financial management makes an organization vulnerable to a number of risk exposures.

Organizations in the finance sector have a greater impact on the aggregate economy than organizations in other sectors. The consensus among scholars and academics alike is that the private banking industry was insufficiently regulated prior to the most recent financial crisis. This lead to inappropriately relaxed risk management environments within banks, which lead to the near collapse of the global economy.

For this assignment, you will write a minimum three-page paper (not including APA title or references pages). In this paper, please address the following questions:

• What are the specific ways banks impact the economy?
• How was the regulatory environment revised?
• Is the regulation effective?
• What risk management standards had to be employed as a result of legislation?
• What are the consequences of failure to meet the standards outlined by regulators?
• Would a firm be prudent to properly manage their level of leverage and liquidity if it were not regulated? Why or why not? What tools can organizations employ to manage these risks?
