Realism

With Realism we now see a non-idealized portrayal of real life in paintings. Research and discuss the characteristics of Realism painting, utilizing your textbook and library resources for information.

Your discussion should focus on (although not limited to) the following points:

  • What the role of the artist was during this time?
  • Who or what were the artist’s subjects?
  • Stylistically, how does Realism differ from what we have seen in the past?
  • As a viewer, how do you relate to Realism painting as compared to those of the past?

Individual art

This is a case study to help you discover connections between the appreciation of art and the workplace.

Taking on the role of an art curator, you will recommend 3 Modern American works of art for the new location of a large pharmaceutical company that wants to invest in art with the theme of “progress” for its new company headquarters. The total budget for the purchase of the artwork is $600,000.

  • To find the 3 Modern American art works with the theme “progress,” visit famous auction houses such as this one and this one, professional galleries, and other Internet sites, and choose paintings, sculptures, or photography that would represent Modern American works of art for the company’s headquarters.
  • For each work of art, create 2 paragraphs that include the following:
    • The title of the work and the techniques and media used.
    • The artist’s name and a brief biography of the artist.
    • Cost of the art work; the budget allows for approximately $200,000 per work of art.
    • How do the characteristics and style of the Modern American artwork address the theme of “progress”?
    • What are the benefits of investing in art for a corporation?
    • Why might employees be interested in these works of art?

Prepare your response using Word. Include photos of the recommended pieces of art. Be sure to include citations and references as needed, although it is not necessary to format this as an APA document.

Submit 1 Word document for this assignment.

In-text citations and a list of references are required when including or paraphrasing any idea, fact, date, or other information from the textbook or other references.

Construction

The contractor is closing out the project and preparing to hand the building over to the client you are representing. During the final commissioning process, the building inspector and engineer notice minor defects in the HVAC system while testing
Discuss on how It would also be important to consider who is responsible for the defects. Indeed this can have implications on who is responsible for correction, who has to pay, release of retention, whether project is substantially complete etc. For example it is possible that the defect may be a design issue and therefore contractor may escape liability if not involved in design

Mutual Mistakes in Contract Law

Suppose Josh Hartly is interested in purchasing a new car and visits his local auto dealer. In the course of his negotiations, he tells the salesperson that he wants the 3.2 liter V-6 engine, and not the 3.9 liter because he has concerns regarding the fuel economy of the 3.9 liter engine. Josh signs a contract agreeing to purchase a car with the 3.2 liter V-6 engine. What neither Josh nor the salesperson knew was that the manufacturer had already stopped manufacturing both the 3.2 liter and the 3.9 liter, and was equipping the cars with a newly designed 3.5 liter engine. What do you think about this situation? Should parties to a sales contract be able to rescind a contract because of mutual mistake of fact? Why or why not? Did either party act unethically in this case? Why or why not? What application does the UCC have here? Finally, in the overall context of contract law, are there any winners or losers when a contract is rescinded based on mutual mistake of fact? Why or why not?

Action plan

Develop an action plan for increasing well-being in your life by addressing the following: Identify at least four areas of potential personal growth and create strategies for self-improvement in these areas. For each of the four areas you select, describe the change you would like to make and the strategy you would use to achieve your goal. For example, you may seek greater concordance between your professional life and your personal characteristics. Self-concordant goals have been shown to increase well-being. To meet this goal, you may need to pursue education in a particular area, become a volunteer at a particular agency, increase networking efforts with people in your field of interest, etc. This is but one example of a strategy for increasing well-being. Many others are presented in your textbook Spend some time considering how you can move closer to ‘life above zero.’ Be sure that the goals you select (for example, increased physical activity) have been shown through research to be associated with greater levels of reported well being. Submit a 10-slide power-point that summarizes your action plan. Include detailed speaker notes. Format your presentation consistent with APA guidelines.

prepare a precedent study of 2500 words on the typology investigated. the typology is “office”.

  1. choose 3 major examples of the office. a) each represent a highly significant example of the type. b) each exemplify a design approach that is distinctive. c) together demonstrate a development of the type over time. that time difference could be centuries or just decades. one of the 3sites must have been completed in the last 10 years.
  2. locate at least 3 published references for each building that refer to the building’s plan and interiors + a plan/plans for each building.
  3. in essay format, draw on these references and plans together with your own observations and unstanding to: a)justify your choice of sites. you need to explain their significance in relation to the specific building type. for example, if they are generally considered to be major examples of their type, why is that? did they break with convention or did they provide fresh interpretations of traditional forms? have they been highly influential? if so, in what ways? b) physically describe each of the 3 buildings with particular emphasis on their plans and interiors. c) critically analyse differences in design approach (compare and contrast the 3 buildings) and why those differences exist. think in terms of the period in which the building was designed, aesthetic values, functional requirements, plan, form, materials, distinctive features, etc.

you will be expected to refer to at least 9 publications that you have closely consulted in the course of your research. tjese references need to be contained within the study and appropriately acknowledged. a llist of references with full details of the publications and other sourses used shoud be included at the end of the study.
